Are you ready to learn how to play the banjo? Soon, I will begin adding 30-minute banjo lessons. I would love for you to follow along. Listed here are some things you will need:
- A banjo. I will be using a Gretsch Broadkaster Special 5 string. These lessons are geared toward 5 strings.

3. Book: I will be using “Banjo Primer for Beginners Deluxe Edition” by Geoff Hohwald.
These are “learn with me” lessons. While I have a Bachelor of Music degree, I don’t know how to play a banjo. I do have a basic understanding of stringed fretted instruments, as I play the bass at my church. I fell in love with the banjo a long time ago and want to learn how to play.
I will go through the book and explain things as I go. The lessons will be on a weekly basis for 30 minutes. This will give us something to work on for the week before the next lesson. It is my hope that by the time we get to the end of the book, we will be able to play the banjo. However, even with my 62 plus years in music and ability to play many different instruments, I know that I will not be ready to jam with the likes of Steve Martin or Vince Gill for a while. So, let’s get ready and have some fun.
